In addition to the Preschool, The Sunshine Charity has initiated many other projects.
In 2008, with the publication of the story book for children, One Country and One People, The Sunshine Charity conducted story telling workshops for children in many parts of the island inspiring them to share the story with their friends. The project explained Sri Lanka’s multi-cultural identity and encouraged them to respect for the different cultural backgrounds existing in Sri Lanka.
In 2016, based on the story, The Sunshine Charity partnered with Sri Lanka’s largest grassroots movement, the Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement, to carry forward the multi-cultural messages in an initiative – Investing in Children’, reaching out to children and young adults, explaining to them in all three languages, that we are all one people in one country.
In 2019, one year after the Easter Sunday bombing, the organization facilitated a three-day trauma support programme in Batticoloa for eighty children affected by the Zion Church bombing. Focusing on Interactive Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Storytelling & Reconciliation, the project created a happy space for the kids to forget for a moment the experiences of that fateful Easter day.
